6th Colossians Chapter 1 Chapter 4 Put on Charity

Song: A Love Song For My Savior by Shenica Graham

Memory Verses: 3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, Colossians 1:3-4 | And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled | And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. 5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. Colossians 2:4-5 | 6As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7 | Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth Colossians 3:2 | 12Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. Colossians 3:12-13 | 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Colossians 3:16-17 | Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; Colossians 4:2 |

And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. Colossians 3:14

Today’s Devotional:

9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; 12Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

God turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. Likewise, when we take our focus off of our own challenges and begin to intercede for others around us and even for stranger whom we know not, God puts into action his law of sowing and reaping. When we so healing for others, God puts his hand upon us to allow His healing virtue to flow.

God is sensitive to our prayerful reaching. Like the woman who had the issue of blood for twelve long years; and who had faith that if she only touched the hem of Christ’s garmet – that being the most she could do in a pressing crowd, that alone would be enough to launch her healing; Jesus felt her touch. It was not her likely tug on the hem that “touched” Christ. Rather, it was her spirit of faith that reached to heart of Christ. His Spirit bearing witness that faith had come, as He said, “…healing virtue went out…” from Him.

Without the power of intercession, many of us would have fallen from grace already; and indeed did fall but have been reconciled to God. We sing the  song, “Somebody prayed for me…” But when we become members in the baptism that is by faith, we have work to do. We must now become part of the prayer circle, making intercession for others.

Colossians 3:18-22

18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. 20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. 21Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. 22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:

Let us pray for peace in familes; for love in relationships; and for joy in every morning; for the spirit of the Lord is available to render all of these; and people are in need that these virtues be made manifest in thier lifetime. We know that in heaven there will be no more tears, but joy on every hand. Yet let us find the gifts of God as we are blessed each day to walk this earth. Let us hold up the hands of our brothers and sisters, lifting the heads of them that hang down; fighting that spirit of depression and hopelessness that is not from God; but let us speak every one a word of encouragement, which needeth not permission of any man; for God so loved the world – He said, by loving kindness I have drawn thee. Therefore let us love our neighbors as ourselves.

2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; 3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: 4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. 5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. 6Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

8Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. 18Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

20Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, 21(Touch not; taste not; handle not; 22Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? 23Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. My God shall supply all my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Lord, I thank you, by the blood of Jesus that no good thing will be withheld from me, because I walk upright before you in your presence. You are my sun and shield. You Lord will give grace and honor. Your peace rules in my heart. You have called and anointed me for your purpose. I seek your perfect and divine will. You, Lord are my source and strength, a very present help.
